The world is wide, beautiful, and waiting. But for many, especially those with disabilities and those who support us, the fear of the unknown can feel like a locked door—a cage holding us back.
We’re Shannon and Dakota. Long before we were a husband-and-wife team, we were just two people who shared a passion: a passion for travel and a belief that life was a gift full of possibilities.
We struggled with our individual disabilities, found a way, found each other, and overcame a lot of the "what ifs" that threatned to derail our hopes and dreams. For those with disabilities facing life's frustrations—barriers at every turn, inaccessible places and inaccessible dreams—we’re hoping these pages might help you find some hidden keys to unlock life's full potential.
Although this may look like a California travel blog at first, we’ve carefully set it up to be so much more. Travel is a powerful tool (as well as a metaphor) for connecting with others, personal growth, and, most importantly, experiencing independence. That's why it’s a central theme and we encourage it where possible. But the real journey is toward independence—a universal human drive—and an especially vital topic for those living with disabilities. Follow this thread throughout our site as we explore its many angles. We know not everyone with a disability can travel freely, but journey with us instead if you choose to and we will attempt to share a wealth of knowledge that goes far beyond just thoughts on travel.
We believe an adventurous, fulfilling life should be something within reach of everyone. Tracks Of Joy is our way of sharing the detailed, practical, and honest information about living to the full with disabilities, and how to find joy as you blaze a trail through life.
So, for anyone striving for independence, we’re here to help you educate yourself, overcome your fears, dream big, and reach your full potential.
Welcome to Tracks Of Joy. Find your key. Be free. Join the adventure.
